Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 - #1 Tobacco state North Carolina passes historic ban on smoking in restaurants and bars

Governor Bev Perdue signed into law a bill approved by the state House and Senate that bans smoking in bars and restaurants beginning on January 2, 2010. The law exempts cigar bars, country clubs and other non-profit private clubs, as well as outdoor areas that have two or fewer walls.

Thursday, May 14th, 2009 - NC General Assembly enters second half of long session

After May 14th, most bills may only be considered if they passed one chamber or the other by that date. The legislature tends to consider more controversial issues in the second half of the session.

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 - NC House sends intermodal/transit bill to Senate
|

The North Carolina House gave final approval today to intermodal/transit bill HB 148 introduced by Rep. Becky Carney (D-Mecklenburg). The bill now goes to the Senate where it was introduced by Sen. Richard Stevens (R-Wake).
